UniSafety was present in Paris, actively participating in discussions on international machine safety standards ISO 12100 and ISO 20607. Guilherme Neto, Technical Director at UniSafety and member of the technical committee of ABNT, represented Brazil at this important global forum. The meeting of ISO Technical Committee 199, Working Group 5, was held in Paris on September 30, October 1, and 2. The event was organized by the French Ministry of Labor and brought together machine safety professionals from several countries, including Italy, France, the United States, Japan, Denmark, Sweden, England, and many others.
During the three-day meeting, three main topics were addressed: requirements for remote access and control of machines via the web, integration of new requirements into the ISO 12100 standard, and issues related to full-body access in machines and protection of power transmission systems.
Advancements in ISO 12100 and ISO 20607: remote access and integration of new requirements
On the first day of the meeting, significant progress was made, especially regarding the requirements for remote access and control of machines via the web. According to Guilherme Neto, “We had valuable contributions from a specialist from the U.S., who provided essential input for defining these requirements. Additionally, concerns about adapting the standard to the Brazilian context were well addressed.”
On the second day, discussions focused on integrating the new remote access requirements into ISO 12100. The committee decided that, as a comprehensive standard, it should be classified as a type A standard. “Some major changes are still possible. The Danish team was leading this discussion and will propose the inclusion of the new requirements,” Neto explained.
On the final day, topics such as full-body access in machines and protection of power transmission systems were discussed. The meeting was filled with learning, experience sharing, and international collaboration.

We continue to move forward in machine safety, always striving for a safer and more efficient future for machinery and equipment. “It is an honor to represent Brazil, ABNT, and UniSafety in such an important international effort. We are already preparing training with these updates for the UniSafety team.”
