44th ISO 12100 Meeting: UniSafety Represents Brazil in the Revision of Global Machine Safety Standards

Between June 30 and July 2, UniSafety is participating in the 44th ISO 12100 Meeting, held in Porto, Portugal. The event brings together specialists from ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC 199 – Safety of Machinery, Working Group 5, which is responsible for the standard "Safety of Machinery – General Principles for Design – Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction" (ISO 12100).

The primary objective of this meeting is to complete the review of nearly 1,000 comments received during the draft stage of ISO 12100. The updated text will then be submitted for a new vote by ISO member countries. If approved, the standard will advance to the Final Draft stage, after which no additional comments will be accepted.

Machine Safety and Global Standards

In addition to ISO 12100, the agenda also includes the review of 280 comments submitted for ISO 20607, the standard dedicated to instruction manuals for machine safety. Brazil contributed four strategic comments focusing on topics such as acceptable risk, fault exclusion criteria, and the reliability of safety systems throughout a machine's entire life cycle.

According to Guilherme Neto, engineer and Managing Partner at UniSafety: "Brazil's participation has been highly significant, particularly in defending criteria that ensure acceptable risk is maintained throughout the machine's operational life." He adds: "We are committed to bringing a technically sound and well-founded perspective that reflects the needs of Brazilian industry."

Since 2023, this marks the eighth international ISO meeting attended by UniSafety, reinforcing the company's commitment to representing Brazil, the state of Paraná, and the industrial sector through technical expertise, critical analysis, and professional responsibility.

Today, UniSafety is the only NR-12 consulting firm in Brazil with an active member directly contributing to the ISO standards revision process.

The meetings continue through July 2 and include the definition of the next international session, which is expected to conclude the ISO 12100 revision process.
